Vincent's Ruin- @Teardroplounge Portland from @tobyTPH Chicago


Vincent's Ruin:

1.5 oz. Bourbon (Bulleit)
.25 oz. St. Germain
.75 oz. Lemon
.25 oz gomme syrup
Absinthe rinse
Dash orange bitters (50-50)

This cocktail was a great example of a simple balance of complex flavors. It is reminiscent of a pre prohibition cocktail except for the inclusion of St. Germain, a relatively new spirit. It is a welcome addition, as along with the requisite sweetness, are the floral and botanical notes to mix with the citrus and the spices of the absinthe which are mostly present only on the nose. Glad this drink traversed the nation.

Gigi- 1.5 oz @HendricksGin, .75 oz lemon juice, .5 oz @StGermainDrinks, .5 oz creme de violette, orange blossom water, lemon oils


1 1/2 oz. Gin (Hendrick's)
3/4 oz. Lemon juice
1/2 oz. Creme de Violette (Rothman and Winter)
1/2 oz. St. Germain
5 drops orange blossom water
Burnt lemon oils

Shake over ice. Strain. Warm zest with match, squeeze oils over flame into drink, slide peel around rim to cover in oils.

Keeping in the floral theme (see Jordaan) I created the Gigi (pronounced gig-ee) the diminutive of my grandmother's name Marguerite, and inspired by her lush gardens in the Smoky Mountains of North Carolina. The nose is an expected floral bouquet of violette and rose. St. Germain and violette on the swallow with bitter orange peel and almondine notes from the orange blossom water.

3/4 oz Bols Genever
3/4 oz St. Germain Elderflower Liqueur
3/4 oz Aperol
3/4 oz Lemon Juice

A simple foursome coalesce in a perfect balance of flavors. Grapefruit is prominent, but not overbearing. Orange notes of Aperol come through on the swallow as well as the familiar St. Germain elderflower. This is one of those cocktails that you almost know exactly how it will taste before you try it, but that's a good thing as they are all great flavors on their own, it's hard to go wrong. Cucumber Cooler- 1 3/4 oz @HendricksGin, 3/4 oz @StGermainDrinks, 3/4 oz lime juice, cucumber, mint, soda water, up

Cucumber Cooler:

1 1/2 oz. Gin (Hendricks)
3/4 oz St. Germain
3/4 oz lime juice
2 slices cucumber
2 sprigs mint
soda water is currently sold out of Hendricks, prompting a trip to the local liquor store to find the lovely OLCC had dropped the price to $30 for the next couple months! Though today has brought cooler weather and gray skies to the Portland metro, yesterday was still toasty enough for a summer refresher, this one comes straight from the Curiositorium . A tasty and simple cocktail with delightful floral notes and cucumber coolness that goes down dangerously well.

Place all liquids (except soda water) in shaker with ice with 1 slice cucumber and leaves from one small sprig of mint. Shake, double-strain into tall glass filled with ice. Garnish with other cucumber slice and mint sprig. Top with soda water (if desired)
